Support in Romania

New Life Church has been supporting an orphanage in Cluj-Napoca, Romania since 2005, called ‘a-mic’, which means ‘friend’ in Romanian. The orphanage is run by a Christian organisation called ’Ecce Homo’. It can accommodate up to 12 children. There are two self contained studio apartments built into the basement of the building, which are used to house older children to teach them how to care for themselves, whilst still being under the overall care of Ecce Homo staff.

The orphanage was built in 1993 by a group of Christians from Chipping Camden and sponsored by Laing Homes. Initially the running costs were born by Samaritan’s Purse International, but their support has now been withdrawn and we at New Life Church have committed to help with part of the running costs, together with other sponsor churches and organisations.

Ecce Homo’s activities began on the 29th of December 1989, springing from the desire to solve the chaotic situation created by the reception and the distribution of the humanitarian aid coming from the Western countries, following the deposition of Nicolae Ceaucescu. They set up a team of volunteers of 20-30 people who would receive and distribute the goods to the needy. The work of Ecce Homo which is ongoing, includes support for street children, poor families, farming communities and Romanian gypsies.
