What is Growing Through?
Growing Through is a Christian support group to help children aged 6 – 11 deal with difficult situations such as death of a loved one. divorce. separation and step-family adjustments.
Growing Through Helps by:
- Providing a safe setting where children can talk through their feelings with their peers who are experiencing similar situations.
- They are helped to express their feelings by an adult facilitator or listener.
- Providing materials including booklets, magazines, crafts, music, games and activities. These help form a structured programme leading the children through the grieving process.
- Enabling children to name, understand and come to terms with the many emotions they experience.
What does a growing through meeting entail?
Growing through includes both large and small group work. Various approaches are used to help children come to terms with the difficulties they are facing. These include drama, music and art in addition to games such as “Anger Bingo”. Over the weeks we look at people in the bible who went through difficult family situations . Growing through helps children to express how they are feeling and to manage their emotions e.g. anger, forgiveness, grief and guilt.
